Description:
The Staff Development and Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for designing, managing, and implementing professional development and staff training programs at the St. Joe County Public Library. The position will deliver professional development solutions to enhance staff performance and help incoming staff reach their potential. This role will welcome new staff and foster the Library’s culture of inclusion and innovation.
- Organize and facilitate ongoing internal and external staff development opportunities. Evaluate the Library's current training program and recommend improvements and implement changes.
- Track and monitor staff development, including the Indiana State Library Certification program and educational reimbursements. Ensure compliance with all mandatory staff training.
- Create and implement a cross training and mentoring program.
- Coordinate annual and quarterly events such as staff day and the volunteer appreciation.
- Evaluate the library’s professional meetings program and guide staff attendance at conferences following established protocols.
- Perform reference and customer service at a public service location on a weekly basis.
- Coordinate Library volunteer program, including managing volunteer applications, timekeeping, training, and placement.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Masters in Library and Information Science preferred.
3 years previous experience working in libraries, human resources, or education.
Hours:
Normal workweek is 40 hours, Monday through Friday.
Required to work program and events after hours and on weekends on rare occasions.
Wages
Starting/Hiring Range: $19.82 - $24.78, Hourly
Total Salary Range: $19.82 - $29.73, Hourly
Requirements:
Experience developing, facilitating, and delivering staff development and training activities.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with instruction.
Proficiency in and comfort with public speaking.
Knowledge of instructional design principles and learning theories.
Knowledge of project management methodologies.
High standards of ethical conduct, honesty, integrity, professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.
Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations.
Practical experience and proficiency with computers, including project management software, databases, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Windows OS, Mac OS, and communication technologies.
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
Spanish language skills preferred.
Ability To:
Design and create training materials and professional presentations.
Create, compose and edit written training materials, including technical writing skills.
Develop or revise training materials as needed.
Develop and manage mentoring programs.
Plan and organize multi-step projects including large events. Meet deadlines and track project work in a timely manner.
Assess audience understanding of material and adjust if necessary.
Stay abreast of library training trends and requirements and compliance, including Indiana State Library Certification requirements.
Plan and prioritize. Make decisions and work independently and interdependently.
Understand, endorse, and communicate the St. Joseph County Public Library’s mission, values, goals, policies and procedures in a courteous, friendly, and positive manner.
