Perform functions to develop and implement Youth Services for the Main Library, and coordinate selected youth activities on a systemwide basis. Under the direct supervision of the Public Services Director, and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Youth Services Manager will:
Engage the next readers and thinkers for our community.
Manage departmental operations relating to services designed for youth (infant through teen), and their parents, caregivers and educators.
Create systemwide expectations for high quality youth services. Develop evaluations, goals, and performance metrics to ensure quality assistance.
Participate in the systemwide selection of popular materials for children and teens, including replacement and topical lists.
Provide instruction to staff and to the public in the use of print resources, Internet, databases, and computer equipment used by the library.
Direct the implementation of youth programming, tours, and special events and participate in outreach, working closely with the Community Engagement Department.
Oversee monthly meetings of staff working with youth throughout the Library system in order to facilitate communication of ideas and training.
Monitor trends in youth services and applicable library technologies. Recommend policy changes as needed.
Participate in library initiatives, projects and teams as well as professional organizations and conference attendance.
Manage employees and volunteers in the Youth Services Department. Hire, train, enforce library policies, resolve difficulties, recommend changes to employment status, establish performance standards and evaluate employee performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
ALA (American Library Association) accredited MLS (Master’s of Library Science degree).
Minimum 3 or more years of public library experience required.
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
Full time, 40 hour workweek
Evening and weekend work as required
Required to work the specified Sunday afternoons per calendar year.
Total Salary Range: $56,639.28 - $83,826.13, Annually
Strong public service orientation.
Knowledge and experience with technology, including integrated library systems as well as personal computers and mobile devices.
Knowledge of library materials and services appropriate for a variety of patrons.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
Continuing professional development.
Work at other library locations as needed, or rotate to other assignments in an effort to promote professional growth and job enrichment throughout the organization.
Reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license.
A valid State of Indiana Librarian Certification, Level 2 as a condition of employment.
